Eagle STEM Scholars and TIPS Scholars at Winthrop University
(One common application for both programs)
Why should you apply?
  • Scholarships are available for students with unmet financial need.
  • Scholars join an active, supportive community of high-achieving STEM students, finding study partners, roommates, and life-long friends.
  • Program staff provide targeted, one-on-one support during the transition to Winthrop and throughout Scholars’ Winthrop careers, including preparation for post-Winthrop education and/or career placement.
  • Scholars immediately begin building personal relationships with professors, who serve as mentors throughout students’ time at Winthrop and beyond. Experienced Scholars also serve as peer mentors.
  • Programs provide Scholars early access to unique, hands-on research and internship experiences, beginning during – or even prior to – the freshman year. These experiences help students clarify and achieve their career goals.
  • Early move-in allows Scholars to get settled on campus before others arrive.
  • A Summer Bridge Program prepares incoming first-year students for academics and life on campus: they get to know fellow Scholars, professors and Program staff, get a head start on math and science coursework, become familiar with campus resources, and are able to start the freshman year with confidence, having a strong support system already in place.
Students meeting program requirements will be invited to a program interview. Applications received on or before February 15 will be given priority.
